I got mentioned for a podcast….
0And it wasn’t even for a review. It was a small mention for another project of mine on nothing else other than the Gigcast. Listen to it now, the mention occurs at about 4:17
Basically, I took a break from webcomic reviews to write this serial story for the ComicGenesis forums. This story is none other than Desperate Keenwives, an alternate take on the popular show Desperate Housewives. It was an idea I threw out on the ComicGenesis IRC room, and tossed it about as a possibility for a Jam. However, I threw it about and finally decided upon writing the serial story with the members of the forums as the characters. Many different elements were based off the original show, but its grown completely away from its roots. Plus, it’s a bit raunchier, considering the people involved. ComicGenesis and its forums has a deep lore thanks to its numerous jams and the people involved, so its pretty fun to pull out elements from DH and CG and combine one bastard child.
Reading the story is pretty easy- you can either read the story on the ComicGenesis Wiki, or go through its thread in the forums.
Season 1: Read it on the forums or on the Comic Genesis Wiki
Season 2: Read it on the forums or on the Comic Genesis Wiki
So read and enjoy. A fully edited version will appear as a book later this year!

I swear to god, I think I’m slowly going insane. By the looks of it, this will probably be done in mid-June. After all, this actually counts as homework to me. So whoopee.
Anyone else have more suggestions?
Webcomics I read
0After hearing many horror stories of Firefox eating up bookmark lists, I decided to back my own up (just to be safe- I was backing up the Team Mayhem site at the same time) and isolate the ones that relate to webcomics.
http://teammayhem.net/webcomics.html
There’s a whole shitload. What webcomics do you read?
forgot to mention this…
6I’m planning to do 20 reviews. All at once.
I’m insane.
Anybody have any good suggestions for comics to review? I’m short 10 or so.
Blarg
0Blarg.
Just blarg. I haven’t done anything, and its starting to grate on me. I haven’t done a lick of my reviews, or any work with Team Mayhem. Sorry, people. I do get to announce, however, Team Mayhem will receiving three videos to post soon, and if I get my video from Anastasi’s performance at Battle of The Bands oh so long ago, there will be another three videos to go up.
Oh, and here’s something of amusement for me.
we get traffic from the 60′s!
Something for the webcomic artists.
7Read this from ‘s LJ.
I read it over twice, and honestly, its a good tidbit for you to remember.
Really, it is.
Things I hate about webcomics
2Okay, I’ve had plenty of things I hate about webcomics. Things that bother the crap out of me to no end, and they come up time and time again in webcomics, and truthfully, it gets to be a pain to look at. This may not reflect the rest of the Korsil.net crew, as it is my own views. I won’t use any actual comics as examples, as not to insult anyone.
1. “OMG, Let’s start a comic!”
This is one many smaller comics are guilty of. You know the drill, two of the characters talking to each other on the first page of the comic, saying, “Let’s start a webcomic!” and the other replying in “Okay!”. This happens way too much. Come on, can’t you use a much easier character introduction than this old bag? Try something new. Anything, really, just keep away from this. And please, please don’t try to make fun of this for your first strip. People have to get used to your comedy, and it’ll bascially become the same thing you were attempting to rip off.
2. “Look! It’s Piro-sama!”
Don’t, don’t cameo famous characters. We get it, they’re popular. Don’t . At the same time, don’t do your own take of Piro’s infamous “sad girl in the snow” unless it was a bukkake scene. Somehow, I’m guessing somebody did a take on that already.
3. “Read right to left”
What exactly does it accomplish if you flip your comic from right to left, exactly? Does this make you “genuine” to make people read in the traditional manga style? Please. It’s just another bother for people to use. I have yet to see a good comic actually attempt to use the flipped style effectively. It basically becomes a cheap flip in photoshop instead of an interesting experiment of different styles.
4. “Page 1-2-3-4″
Okay, one of my little annoyances, I know, but when a comic doesn’t have a button for the next comic or the previous comic, it gets to be a bug in your ass to navigate these pages.
5. “I love <insert game/movie/comic book/etc.>, I’m going to make a comic out of it!”
You know the idea. Somebody loves a well known cultural object with a respective fanbase, and attempts to make a webcomic out of it. Yeah, there are those that have pulled off the concept at least halfway decently or amazingly well, but every other comic has attempted to do so has failed, as they try to use the same exact characters from the universe, but either making fun of the storyline already built or simply idolize the universe/object over and over again
I’ll probably make more of these another time.
Current Webcomic faves
2Yeah, I love to read webcomics. But every so often, there are comics that I just adore. Some do become a flavor of the week to me, but there are those comics that I find myself recommending. So I compiled a short list of comics that I’m enjoying right now.
- Questionable Content –
qcjeph‘s indie rock drama/comedy still rawks my socks. Call me a sucker, but the writing is superb and he’s getting better and better with his art. I want a pintsize t-shirt, dammit. - Darken – I don’t like to place favorites on only certain genres, so I like to have my tastes to be spread out across like jelly. And to tell the truth, Darken really does fit a great anti-hero tale set in a fantasy world. And honestly, I can’t find any other place that I can enjoy.
- NetherOak – GODDAMN. I keep recommending this comic to all those that ask me, but nobody seems to catch on to how much I love this comic. Seriously,
reddeadrazi‘s anime-inspired story about asian gangs in Toronto and a new drug really does evolve in terms of art, and the slow transformation is AWESOME. It’s right now at the ending, and I find myself checking the site every day in order to see another page of the action packed finale (the comic is part of the Hot Bullet Press comics collective, which is an awesome collection of action packed comics.). Read it. I’ll probably say it multiple times here, but READ IT. - Renaissance Ogre – It’s only five pages. I know. But I’m a huge Elf Only Inn fan, and seeing
Sortelli at it again with a webcomic makes me a happy little fan. The comic is only available on his livejournal, so go and read it now. There aren’t many pages anyways, so there isn’t any reason why you should ignore the comic. Plus, it has an Aussie ogre. And he’s an accountant. What can’t you love about that combo? - Gloomy Nancy – Found this through Razi Oak (
reddeadrazi), and I can’t help but read the comic for the Canadian humor and snappy dialouge that occurs. Plus, the line “Holy Crap! You were a little asian princess!” totally won me.
